Tackle Tournament ends Foundation Year

S0786998 The Annual Year Six Tackle Tournament finished off another highly successful year of Schools Coaching for the Community Foundations Development Team of Paul March and Jeremy Crowther .

Boys and Girls Teams from Four Primary Schools – Lees , Worth Valley , Settle and Oakworth took part in a took part in a series of seven a side full contact games in glorious conditions at Cougar Park, putting into a match situation the skills they had learned in in-school coaching sessions  lead by Paul and Jez .

S0176714Although for much of the year the emphasis in the schools sessions is on developing the  evasion and ball handling  skills of touch touch rugby, for the final part of the year schools are offered the chance of two further sessions where youngsters are taught tackling and contact play.

After an afternoon of hard fought games , expertly refereed by Paul , and U20’s players Jack Kennedy and Alfie Seely , both Settle Boys and Settle Girls emerged as Champions .

‘We hope to see as many of the young people taking part in today’s tournament  carrying on as rugby league players after they leave their Primary School ‘ said Jeremy, ‘whether it’s by joining one of the junior side in the Community Game , or by taking part in the RL Opportunities that are available through the Upper Schools such as the RFL Champion Schools Competition.’
