Stuart Gallacher

Former Keighley forward Stuart Gallacher has died age 68. Stuart joined Llanelli in 1965 playing nearly 200 games going on to play for Wales in 1970. He switched codes that year to join Bradford playing almost 100 games for Northern. Stuart moved on to Keighley in January 1975 playing for Wales in the 1975 Rugby League World Cup. He was also a member of the 1976 Challenge Cup semi-final team who narrowly lost to St. Helens. After playing 43 games for Keighley he hung up his boots and went back to Wales serving as Chief Executive at Llanelli and Scarlets and also as Chairman of Regional Rugby Wales stepping down this year because of ill health. Our sympathy to his family.

  1. That day at Fartown was the closest any of us came/ or will come to seeing Keighley in a Cup Final (unless you’re 85+) …it was a magnificent team, losing by a point to St Helens, in the era when any club, on the day, had a chance against any other – days that have gone forever…
