Keighley Cougars are this evening delighted to announce the signing of Jose Kenga from Hunslet RL.
The 22 year old Prop arrives at Cougar Park following an 18 month spell in South Leeds in which time he made 14 appearances under 3 different coaches as well as helping Hunslet to League One Shield glory in the 2017 Super Eights campaign.
Born in Congo, Kenga began his Rugby League career as a part of the youth system at amateur outfit Hunslet Warriors as well as playing regularly for his school, Cockburn High, before being signed to the Scholarship programme at the Leeds Rhinos but was then released by the Headingley based club at the conclusion of the 2011 season and returned to the amateur game.
Jose then moved south to join the Sheffield Eagles where he spent 3 years as a part of the club’s Reserves grade as well as being one of a number of Eagles players to play with the Sheffield Hallam Eagles club where he was a part of the 2014 side that finished runners-up to the Valley Cougars in the Conference South.
The Congolese forward then joined the Dewsbury Rams in 2015, spending 18 months in the Rams’ Reserves team in which time he was a part of the side that stunned the Leigh Centurions in the 2015 Grand Final to clinch the Reserves Championship.
2016 saw Kenga make 2 appearances on loan at the University of Gloucestershire All Golds prior to making his move to the South Leeds Stadium in late July of that year.
The Cougars are delighted to welcome Jose to Cougar Park and can confirm he has been allocated the number 31 jersey for the ever nearing 2018 season.
