Keighley Cougars can this evening announce Emmerson Whittel has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal.
The second-row forward is currently recovering from an ACL injury sustained in July’s record equalling 92-6 home victory over Oxford RL but has now agreed a new deal with the club.
The deal will see Emmerson continue his rehabilitation with the club throughout the 2018 season looking forward to a return to full training and playing in late 2018 or the 2019 season.
Arriving ahead of the 2017 season from the University of Gloucestershire All Golds, Whittel impressive pre-season performances saw him named in Craig Lingard’s first choice seventeen and he scored the winning try on debut against Doncaster RL in the League One Cup.
The following week saw Emmerson sustain a broken jaw in the horrific scenes which marred the Challenge Cup victory away at Fryston Warriors but he would score a try on his return from injury in the League One defeat at home to the Barrow Raiders before making a further 9 appearances prior to sustaining his current injury.
