Deano’s Boys Torn Apart By Eagles

Keighley Cougars U20’s 18-42 Sheffield Eagles U20’s Match Report by Joshua Chapman (@Chapalar)

Dean Muir’s Keighley Cougars began the new campaign with a home fixture against the Sheffield Eagles down at Cougar Park.

Muir will have been furious with the start his side made when Shab Khan allowed Ryan Miller to intercept and power through to break the deadlock after just two minutes.

The Eagles extended their league when Ross McGinn broke the line before an offload from Tom Ashton sent Millar over in the corner for his and the sides second try.

Ryan Millar completed his hat-trick shortly before half time taking advantage of some sloppy Cougar defending following a bombing kick from Calum Butler.

Tom Ashton started the second half by taking more advantage of the sloppy defending by powering through a group of non-tacklers to extend the Eagles lead to fourteen.

Deano’s boy’s non-tackling mentality continued ten minutes later when Jon Hale somehow managed to ground the ball underneath the posts.

Millar walked through the Keighley line to score his fourth of the evening with relative ease, much to the dismay and anger of the coaching staff.

Despite conceding following Millar’s fourth, Marcus Stock sidestepped both Tom Courtney and Luke Moorby to touch down.

Tom Bailey was the next beneficiary of the Cougars sloppy defending, collecting and touching down a bouncing kick despite being marked by three men.

Chris Watson carried the Cougars back into the game having a try disallowed before starting the play for Liam Darville to cut the deficit to four from ten after the poor start.

After the poor start for the second half the Cougars found a similar consolation when substitute Ben Blackwell crossed for the Cougars.

The Cougars other consolation came on the hooter when captain Tom Courtney forced his way over the whitewash in the final minute.
