Cougars Head Up The Mount – Batley Preview

Batley Bulldogs v Keighley Cougars Match Preview by Joshua Chapman (@Chapalar) in association with A1 Stairlifts.

The Cougars make the short trip to the Stadium this Sunday to take on West Yorkshire rivals, the Batley Bulldogs.

The dominant second half display against Barrow on Sunday secured the Cougars a Cup tie away at Swinton and left Player-Coach Paul March with not a lot to ponder in regards to changes.

Marchy put in a starring role on his return from suspension and James Haley played a solid game on his long awaited return from a shoulder injury, whilst Ross Peltier impressed once again from the interchanges bench.

However, this doesn’t mean that the likes of Elliot Cosgrove and Lewis Graham, absent from the defeat of the Raiders, won’t be pushing to win their places back in the seventeen. Ben Sagar and Daley Williams are also in line for returns.

Speaking, ahead of this Sunday’s game, Marchy said: “Our attitude wasn’t where it should have been last week; our mentality wasn’t right and defensively we weren’t right. We’ve got to defend our own line much better and stop piggy-backing teams down the field. If we don’t improve for this week’s match, we’ll get punished.”

This Sunday will see a first competitive game against the Cougars for the pair of Scott Leatherbarrow and Joe Chandler who swapped Cougar Park for Mount Pleasant at the end of last season.

Scott scored 154 points for the Cougars last term whilst Chandler regularly impressed in both the centres and the second row, where he struck up a devastating partnership with Oliver Pursglove.

The Bulldogs, will also have the duo of winger Alex Brown, on loan from Leigh, and utility forward Kyle Trout, on loan from Wakefield, both of whom were forbidden to play in the cup tie against Castleford last Sunday by the duo’s respective parent clubs.

Off the field this past Tuesday, the Batley duo of Ayden Faal and Jonny Campbell had their suspensions for breaching the RFL’s gambling regulations reduced. Meaning both will return before the end of the campaign.

The fixture will be played at the Stadium in Batley, with a 14:00 kick off time. Admission prices are £15 Adults, £10 Concessions & £3 for Juniors.
