Cougars Aim For Cup Progression – Barrow Preview

Keighley Cougars v Barrow Raiders Preview by Joshua Chapman (@Chapalar) in association with A1 Stairlifts.

Cup Fever hits Cougar Park this weekend as the Cougars welcome Barrow Raiders in the Fourth Round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.

The Cougars progressed to this stage three weeks ago following a comprehensive 42-0 victory over the Wath Brow Hornets.

Player-Coach Paul March, back from suspension this Sunday, has no new injury concerns with a number of players, including himself, set for a return.

James Craven (Groin) is set for a return after missing the Sheffield defeat and Ben Sagar is also ready for action after not featuring since the defeat at Doncaster in February.

The big news for Marchy is that James Haley (Shoulder) could be set for a first run out since August when he sustained the lengthy injury in a 25-12 defeat to Workington Town.

Speaking ahead of the game, Paul said: “Everyone at the club wants to get the victory and progress to the next round. They’ll be up for it too, with a new coach and not having the best start to the season will be looking to turn it round.”

It’s been all change off the field for our visitors this weekend off the field in the last fortnight with Anthony Murray stepping down to be replaced by Bobbie Goulding.

Goulding is looking for some motivation from his players after a 37-12 defeat to Whitehaven, stating: “The players shouldn’t be here if they don’t want to test themselves against Leeds, Wigan or St Helens. Keighley will be in the same boat as us and will be desperate to get through.

Goulding is also on the lookout for new additions to his squad and has already acted by first registering himself as a player before the announcement that Mick Govin had joined on a month’s loan from the Leigh Centurions.

The Raiders progressed to this round after suffering a scare at Headingley before eventually running out with an 18-10 victory against the Milford Marlins.

Finally, a reminder that we have a 2pm Kick Off at Cougar Park on Sunday, this in order for the Fifth Round draw to be televised immediately after the conclusion of the BBC Television Game. Tickets can be pre-ordered online.
