The visit also coincided with the official launch of YSC’s Partnership with Sport-ed , a national organization that was formed as a legacy from the 2012 London Olympics and supports and promotes the use of sport as vehicle for social change .

Your Sporting Chance Project Manager Mary Calvert said ‘We’d like to thank Commissioner Burns-Williamson for his visit this afternoon to Cougar Park and Your Sporting Chance and his interest in the work of the project

Also we welcome Officials from Sport-ed whom have given us great support since our link up . especially from former Super League Referee Stuart Cummins who has taken on the role of Sport-ed Mentor for YSC and has been working closely with Your Sporting sported_logo_strapline_RGB_For websiteChance to help develop the project and demonstrate its impact. He’s a great knowledge of rugby league and how Community Projects like ours can work successfully with our host clubs .

YSC Project workers and Cougars First Teamers Brendon Rawlins and Buster Feather lead a sports session on the Cougar Park pitch with young people who have been referred to the project .

Buster said ‘Brendon, myself and not forgetting Korki our previous project worker ,really worked hard with this particular set of lads over the last 18 months and they’ve responded really well to our sessions . We have very little or no reports of anti social behaviour from them now in their own neighbourhood and they are in the main back in educational provision . We’ve even had a few of them take up playing rugby league with the local amateur teams .

Brendon added ‘Its been a great opportunity today to publicise what we do and Commissioner Burns – Williamson ,who told us he himself played for Castleford a few years back was genuinely interested in the link up between Professional Sport and Youth Work .’
