Mike Emmett joined the club in October 2016 as Craig Lingard’s fifth new recruit following his appointment as Keighley Cougars Head Coach.
Emmett arrived at Cougar Park following twelve months with the York City Knights where despite the off field dramas, he helped the side to the iPro Sport Cup Final against the Cougars in Blackpool and the League One play-offs, where a side made up of only twelve men went down bravely at the hands of Toulouse Olympique.
Plying his trade from the front row as Prop or at Loose Forward, Mike began his playing career with the Dewsbury Rams and featured 27 times in the 2009 season where under the stewardship of Warren Jowitt, the Rams went the entire League One campaign unbeaten to be promoted as Champions to the Championship.
Despite featuring regularly through the 2010 season, Emmett moved on to join Doncaster, a club where he would enjoy further success.
After a 2011 season in which the Dons never really hit the heights, the arrival of Paul Cooke in 2012 saw the club come on leaps and bounds as the secured promotion to the Championship in 2012 claiming the League Leaders Shield before defeating Barrow in the play-off final to be crowned Champions.
2013 saw the club appoint Cooke as Player-Coach and the veteran half-back appoint Emmett as Club Captain as the club finished 6th and were defeated in the first round of the play-offs by the Dewsbury Rams.
The following season saw the club touted as one of the favourites for relegation but Emmett and his teammates defied all the odds and even overcame a points deduction for breach of dual-registration rules to finish 4th, however they would fall short once more in the play-offs before 2015 saw the club completely collapse on the field to be relegated with only two wins all season.
