Danny Lawton has been with the Keighley Cougars since the 2010 campaign following his departure from the Leeds Rhinos academy.
A regular points scorer for the club with both his hands and feet, his tryscoring and goal kicking exploits made him a firm fans favourite with the Keighley locals as did his phenomenal feats of defence from the centre position.
Danny was a key figure in the 2011 Championship One promotion squad under Jason Demetriou and made the division’s Team of the Season at the conclusion of that campaign.
Since joining the club, ‘Lawts’ has made 113 appearances (up to 2016) in Red, White and Green and has more than played his part in the 2011 promotion winning campaign and the run to the Challenge Cup Quarter Finals in 2014.
2016 saw Lawton score five tries and convert 28 goals in his 10 appearances as he reached the 500 point mark for the club in July’s 34-28 victory over the York City Knights at Cougar Park.
Leeds born Danny was with the Rhinos Academy for five years and in 2008 scored 15 tries in 21 appearances to help the Junior Academy reach the Grand Final where they defeated St Helens 26-16. Danny was also in the Leeds U19 team who took on their Australian counterparts in the Carnegie Academy World Club Challenge.
Before joining the Rhinos Academy Danny played for local amateur sides Middleton Marauders and East Leeds and has represented Yorkshire at Under 16 level. In his early playing career he won the Junior Division One and the Continuation Cup.
