Ben Sagar re-joined the Keighley Cougars in September 2016 following two years out of Rugby League.
Following the clubs relegation from the Championship in 2014, Sagar departed Cougar Park to take a sabbatical from the game in order to spend time with his young family and focus on his career away from the sport.
A local lad and a firm fans favourite during his previous spell, Ben made his professional debut for the club in 2009 as under the stewardship of Barry Eaton, the Cougars secured promtoion from Championship One.
Depsite relegation the following season, Sagar really came into his own following the appointment of Jason Demetriou as the new Head Coach.
Under JD, Sagar was crowned both the Coaches and Players’ Player of the Year in 2011 as the club bounced back up at the first time of asking, defeating Workington Town in the Play-Off Final to secure promotion back into the second tier.
2012 saw more success on the field as the Cougars finished 6th to secure a place in the Championship play-offs with Ben picking up further success off the field as he was crowned the Player of the Year despite converting from the wing to the second-row.
The appointment of Paul March saw Ben continue his impressive form in a back-row partnership with fellow Keighley boys Oliver Pursglove and Brendon Rawlins in 2013 as depsite defeat at Barrow on the final day off the season, the club narrowly avoided relegation.
2014 saw Ben only feature on 12 occassions, not helped by injury, however he more than played his part in the clubs run to the Challenge Cup Quarter Finals, starting at loose forward in the Quarter Finals defeat away at the Widnes Vikings prior to taking his break from Rugby League following the conclusion off the season.
