New Stadium Update – we have planning permission for Phase 1!

Re-development of proposed main stand and associated facilities, artificial pitch and new floodlighting proposal.

Background

Keighley Cougars in early 2013 formed a Steering Committee to look at and promote the redevelopment of the main stand in conjunction with their neighbour Bradford League Cricket Club Keighley CC an ECB Focus Club. To provide a main stand fit for purpose and compliant with current safety regulations and standards, to improve changing and classroom facilities as well as a new gym, all as a first phase of an overall masterplan to provide a multi sports and education solution for the local community.

The Steering Committee currently provide its time speculatively and its current progress has culminated in a full planning application submitted to Bradford Council in December 2013 for the re-cladding, new seating structures and facilities underneath the main stand. An approval is / was obtained in April 2014.

Further to discussions with the Rugby Football League in respect of the Club’s proposals and aspirations. It has been suggested by them to consider the main pitch playing surface in respect of replacing the existing grass pitch with a modern semi artificial pitch and modern floodlighting.

This allows a large increase of use and therefore significantly increased income in terms of attracting other sports and clubs and their governing bodies to consider investment, for use of the pitch / ground.

The planning approval is an important initial phase achieved and allows various funding channels to be applied to.

Cost Estimates

Costs have been looked at in conjunction with a Quantity Surveyor.

• Phase 1 Stand re-clad, new seating and ancillary accommodation £1,200,000.00

• Artificial pitch and associated lighting £400,000.00
