March Returns As 20’s Grab Home Win

Keighley Cougars Under 20’s 42-10 Halifax RL Under 20’s Match Report by Joshua Chapman (@Chapalar) in Association with A1 Stairlifts.

Forty eight hours removed from the conclusion of his two month stadium ban, Paul March’s first half cameo inspired the Under 20’s to a comfortable victory over Halifax at Cougar Park.

March ran in a hat-trick in a strong looking line up which also marked long awaited run outs for first team trio Ross Peltier, Jesse Sheriffe and Matthew Bailey.

Paul grabbed his first try after just seven minutes when after Ryan Patchett broke and left three Fax defenders for dead before offloading to send the Player-Coach in under the sticks.

Under the posts is where Marchy found himself again just three minutes later when after an excellent cross field move, Andy Gabriel’s clever pass sent him over.

A further two tries wrapped up an excellent opening quarter to the evening for Dean Muir’s side, first Liam Darville scored in the corner before March powered through an attempted tackle to wrap up the hat-trick.

The only blot on the copy book before the hooter came when Oli Barrett found himself in a bus sized gap and raced over despite the interests of Gabriel who made his best efforts to keep the visitors nilled.

Cougars continued their dominance in the second half despite losing Captain Sean Kelly early on to an injury similar to that sustained by Luke Haigh a week previous at The Shay.

Kelly’s injury came after a further two tries, the first of which saw a Ben Stead kick on the last collected by Jesse Sheriffe before the full back turned through a challenge to squeeze over.

The other saw Liam Darville, in similar style to his first of the game, collect the ball unmarked and walk the ball home into the corner.

Halifax did grab another score when hooker Jordan Baldwin took the play the ball and threw the dummy to get in between Jack Kennedy and Luke Moorby.

Keighley wrapped the game up when after a lovely break by the man of the match Jordan Whippy, the ball was worked to Jesse Sheriffe who went through the gap and raced round to touchdown.

COUGARS: Jesse Sheriffe, Darville, Moorby, Whippy, Gabriel, March, Stead, Peltier, Kelly, Patchett, Watson, Eccleston, Bailey. Interchanges: Coe, Gregory, Kennedy, Walker.
