Cougars Add Joe Lumb To The Ranks

Keighley Cougars are this afternoon delighted to announce the signing of Joe Lumb from the Bradford Bulls.

Lumb, who is a hooker by trade, joins the club after being released from the final two seasons of his current Bulls deal following the Odsal sides relegation to Kingstone Press League One.

The 21 year old began his career in the amateur game with West Bowling before joining the Cougars Reserves sides and making a number of appearances before leaving to sign with the Bradford Bulls Academy.

His impressive performances for the Under-19’s earned him a first team call-up from James Lowes where he would make his debut in a comprehensive away victory against Swinton Lions.

Joe would score his first try in the following month’s Challenge Cup win away at Dewsbury Rams and despite Lowes being replaced by Rohan Smith, ‘Lumby’ would make a further eight appearances as the Bulls lifted the Championship Shield, and the hooker himself earning a new deal until the end of 2019.

Staying loyal to the club through liquidation this past winter, Lumb has found himself out of favour under Geoff Toovey either side of a period out on the sidelines with a broken thumb and has only featured on 3 occassions in 2017 with his last appearance for Bradford coming in March’s Challenge Cup home defeat to the Featherstone Rovers.

Lumb also started at hooker for the Bulls in the Cougars 25-24 Joe Phillips Memorial Trophy victory in late January, scoring the Bulls opening try on the afternoon at Cougar Park.

We are delighted to welcome Joe to Cougar Park and look forward to seeing him in Keighley colours in 2018!
